Class Website: mrsgibsonsmath.blogspot.com
Course Description: This 8th grade course bridges the conceptual and operational gap between previous mathematical courses and Algebra. It is designed to help students obtain the necessary skills for success in future high school courses. The course will cover key areas of Algebra while maintaining basic math skills.
Subjects of Emphasis include:           The Number System
           Expressions and Equations
           Functions
           Geometry
           Statistics

Supplies A three ring binder (anything over one inch) to hold all notes and class handouts, notebook paper, and graph paper will be needed for this class. The student is also expected to bring their Digits workbook with them to class each day.

Grading Procedures: See student handbook pages 16-17 for information on standards-based grading, progress reports, report cards, effort and conduct ratings.
Students will be assigned homework through the Digits program. If you do not have internet access, the students may check out a Digits disk from me to be uploaded onto a home computer or the students may pick up a paper copy of the assigned homework.

Homework is assigned and is important for students to practice, acquire new knowledge, and apply new skills. The motivation for doing homework should come from each student’s clear understanding that it will contribute to their learning, not compliance or grading. Homework will be evaluated but not included in the final grade.

Reassessment Guidelines:
See student handbook page 16-17 for more information about reassessment guidelines.  Information about make-up work can be found on page 9 of the student handbook.
